Fusidic acid (Fuskin) cream/ Ointment is topical antibiotic. Fusidic acid is prescribed for skin infections caused by germs called staphylococcal bacteria. Such infections include impetigo, infected cuts and grazes, and infected dermatitis and other inflammatory skin conditions. It works by stopping the growth of the germs causing the infection.

DESCRIPTION

Fusidic acid (Fuskin) cream/ Ointment is topical antibiotic. Fusidic acid is prescribed for skin infections caused by germs called staphylococcal bacteria. Such infections include impetigo, infected cuts and grazes, and infected dermatitis and other inflammatory skin conditions. It works by stopping the growth of the germs causing the infection.

INDICATIONS

Fuskin cream/ Ointment is suitable for treating conditions including:

  • Infected eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis
  • Impetigo
  • Infected hair follicles
  • Infected wounds
  • Infection around the nails

Fuskin cream/ Ointment should only be used to treat infected skin conditions caused by bacteria.

PRECAUTIONS

Reading the following warnings carefully will help to ensure you are selecting an appropriate product.

  • This medicine is unsuitable for you if you are allergic to any of the cream’s ingredients.
  • Consult your doctor if you are using Fuskin cream/ Ointment over large areas of skin, or on any skin near the eyes. This may make you more susceptible to side effects.
  • Take care when using Fuskin cream/ Ointment, as some of its ingredients may cause skin irritation.
  • Please read all packaging and the Patient Information Leaflet before taking any new medicine and inform your doctor of medicines you are taking or intend to take.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

Fuskin cream/ Ointment during pregnancy is generally considered safe. However consult your doctor.

Fuskin cream/ Ointment is also considered suitable for breastfeeding women for the same reasons.

DIRECTIONS

Use the preparation exactly as your doctor tells you to.

  • Apply a thin layer of Fuskin cream/ointment to the infected area and rub it in gently.
  • Unless you have been told otherwise, use it 3-4 times a day.
  • Remember to wash your hands well after you have finished using it (unless you are using it to treat your hands).

DURATION

  • Only use it for as long as your doctor has instructed you to.
  • A course of treatment typically lasts for around seven days.
  • You should not use the cream or ointment for longer than 10 days.
